Exclusive Interview by Edgar A. Petallo
Jan Haraslin - Mister International-Slovak Republic 2012

Currently taking his masters degree in Political Science and International Relations in the University of Hamburg, Germany, Slovakia's towering ambassador to this year's Mister International is not just your ordinary boy-next-door material. A self-confessed football player for 15 years, Jan Haraslin ain't just all about a sporty hunk without brains. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Vienna with an impressive academic distinction. Now without much further dilly-dallying, let's find out more about this handsome bachelor:

*Tell us something about yourself, most people don't know.
So you want me to lift a secret about me? Really? Ok, but don't tell anyone! A lot of people know me as a football player, as I have been playing this wonderful game for more than 15 years...but just very few of them know that I was a member of our school choir!

*What is your greatest achievement, so far?

There are three achievements I would like to mention, as they are all equally important for me:

1. My B.A. University Degree in Political Science with a distinction from the University of Vienna
2. U-19 Vienna Champion with my football team Wiener Sportklub in 2007/2008
3. The title Mister Slovak Republic

*Who or what inspires you the most? (How does it inspire you?)
I found my main inspiration in the Ancient Greek philosophy, called “kalokagathia” based on bodily, moral and spiritual whole which inspires and motivates me to develop and improve my physical as well as my intellectual aspect..

*How does it feel representing your beautiful country?
It feels really great and I enjoy every single minute of it! It is an honor for me and I am more than glad to get the chance to represent Slovakia and being chosen as the ONE - (my country's) ambassador.

*Favorite part of your body and why?
I would say my eyes. They have a unique color, a mixture of green and brown and they enable me to see all the beauties of the world.

*What do you usually wear when you sleep? How does it make you comfortable?
I usually wear boxer shorts, but when it gets colder I put on my nice and cozy pajama

*Do you consider yourself as vain like other gorgeous men?
No, not at all. I try to be nice and treat all people equally and respectfully – just as I would like to be treated by them.

*What turns you off?(And why)
I am very sensitive with strange smells. Those can drive me crazy!

*How do you keep yourself fit and healthy?
Well, I think I will not tell you anything new and overwhelming if I say it is all about the healthy nutrition and exercising. I try to eat healthy and smart, I do not smoke and I drink alcohol just occasionally. I usually work out 5 to 7 days a week and try to get as much as possible of my beauty-sleep
To be honest with you, I am a big fan of chocolate and all the sweets you can imagine and I do eat them quite often. But every time I do so, I know I have to work out more to create a balance of the income and the output of calories.

*What’s the first thing you would do should you win the tittle of Mister International 2012?
I would post it on facebook to let all of my friends know about it! And afterwards I would try to promote healthy lifestyle and force young people to adopt it.

*What is the importance of winning an international tittle?
It is definitely the publicity you get and you can take an advantage of. The more people know about you, the more opportunities you have. It is just up to you if and how you can deal with them.

*Three things you can’t live without?
It is very hard to make this decision… but at least I don’t have to choose among the people Ok, but if I really had to choose, my TOP 3 would be: a football, chocolate and...(?)

*Any special message to your fans?
First of all, I would like to thank all of them for being my fans! It is a really cool feeling to have you, guys! And secondly, be ambitious, set up goals and fight for them! Anything is possible and never forget, if you really want something, you will get it! That’s how I’ve ended up here…

*Occupation: MA Student of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Hamburg in Germany, currently doing an internship at the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone Authority, in the United Arab Emirates
*Height: 189 cm/ 6.3
*Weight: 85 kg
*Shoe Size: 45/ 11.5
