Annona Squamosa, locally known in the Philippines as Atis is enriched with vital nutrients necessary for optimum health function. Each gram of the edible portion of regular-sized atis contains 50 mg of ascorbic acid (vitamin c), 60 mg of lysine and 23-55 mg of phosphorus.
Vitamin C has always been known and proven to strengthen the immune system and fights cancer-causing free radicals. Lysine on the other hand is an essential amino acid which the human body alone could not produce or manufacture which means that in order to have it, we need to eat lysine-rich food sources like atis or through supplements. Amino acid like lysine are the building blocks of protein. Lysine is important for proper growth, and it plays an essential role in the production of carnitine, a nutrient responsible for converting fatty acids into energy and decreasing bad cholesterol levels. Lysine also helps in the production of collagen which is a significant ingredient for skin tightening and youthful looks. Meanwhile phosphorus is very important in the formation of bones and teeth as well as for cell or tissue repair.
The seed kernels (although toxic when consumed) can be pounded into paste and used to get rid of lice (a hair parasite). However just be extra careful not to get any paste into your eyes as this can irritate or even cause blindness.
