As a child born in a Christian family, the first chapter in the bible that my mom taught me to memorize by heart is the book of Psalm chapter 23. Whenever I'm scared, anxious or troubled, I always meditate and claim God's promises through these wonderful verses even up to now. It is filled with His unconditional loving assurance of peace, guidance deliverance and divine providence. With faith in His words and earnest prayers claiming His promises uttered in these texts, had made me witnessed His undying love and protection amidst those near-insurmountable storms that struck my life.
One vivid memory that had really strengthened my faith in Him was the time when I was saved from that fatal vehicular accident which recklessly took one life and had severely injured the passengers including my parents. I was the only one who haven't had any injury, not even a scratch or bruise after the public vehicle which we rode in turned upside down and rolled over during the crash. I was still six years old during that time and yet I have already mastered Psalm 23:1 which states, "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not be in want". I recited this text silently for a couple of times and prayed to God for our safety before we headed to our destination. Then I slept beside my mom in the bus and when I opened my eyes, a deplorable smoke, a horrific scene of a shattered windshield, gravely cracked ceiling, bloody marks on the seats, and cries of the wounded passengers fully awakened my senses. Yes it was a nightmare, but it wasn't a dream. 'Twas a terrifying and such a traumatic experience for me as a child, but despite of that I Thank God that my parents were safe although they were badly injured and needed to be confined in the hospital for recovery.
Looking back, it was indeed a miracle that I haven't had any form of physical trauma. The Lord through His holy angels deliberately preserved me and my parents from harm and it was my very first solid experience of His timely deliverance from such fateful harrowing incident. And up to these days whenever I am faced with incredible challenges and enormous trials, that specific experience served me as my inspiration that I have a powerful living God up there who is far bigger than my problems, a loving and merciful Saviour who can be my faithful Shepherd regardless of my imperfections, who will ardently guide me every step of the way and will patiently carry me through no matter how impossible and arduous the road may seem to be.
