EBD's The 65th Miss Universe Top 16 First Leaderboard

The 65th Miss Universe (technically Miss Universe 2016) will be
held in the Mall of Asia Arena, Manila, Philippines on January 30, 2017
This is my first initial Top 16 hotpicks post for the upcoming Miss Universe in Manila, Philippines. This is just an overview of the contenders who might possibly be lording the 65th edition of the highly anticipated beauty pageant in the universe. The criteria of my assessment are based upon their respective performances in the national finals, their communication skills, sash and 'x' factor, physical beauty and intelligence as well as their transformation after they have been crowned as their countries' bets.

So for the avid fans of the ladies who didn't make it in my list, this is not yet final. The real battle begins once all the candidates arrive in the beauty battle arena.

Leading in my first leaderboard is none other than the black beauty from the USA, 26 years old, Deshauna Barber who possesses the best communication skills among the pool of contenders this year. Once she gets hold of the microphone in the question-and-answer portion, there is no doubt that she could easily annihilate all her opponents, that, if the judges and the Miss Universe Organization will put a heavier weight on the final interview. Barber has a Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems and is working as an IT Analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce. She is currently the first woman serving in the U.S. Army reserve to win the title of Miss USA.

Next in my list is Kristal Silva Davila of Mexico. She is 24 years old, a

model and a beauty pageant titleholder who previously competed in Miss Earth 2013 and was among the Top 8 Finalists. Her beauty and stature reminds me of Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler of Venezuela. She is much prettier though. Silva could actually use her previous experience in Miss Earth, which was also held in the Philippines during that time to her advantage and with the right styling and strategies, she can definitely pull off a pleasant surprise in Miss Universe.

Coming in third is Maxine Medina of the Philippines who will serve as the host for the foreign delegates competing for the most prestigious crown. She is a television and print ad model with a degree in Interior Design from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Just like the reigning Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, 25 years old Medina is also under the tutelage of Aces and Queens, a famous beauty camp in the Philippines who passionately trained the Filipinas in the biggest international pageants overseas. Statuesque and beautiful, Medina is working very hard for a back-to-back win. Her camp is presently concentrating in her communication skills which is apparently her Achilles heel.

Following in fourth place is Andrea Tovar of Colombia. Personally, I initially put her on top of my list, however with the recent viral video of her throwing tantrums to the media officer during the interview, she slipped further down from her front-runner status in my notes. A pleasant personality and good work ethics are very essential attributes which the Miss Universe Organization is looking for in their winners. But who knows? The MUO might forgive her for that. Tovar is 23 years-old and has a degree in Industrial Design and Photo Production.

Completing my first pre-arrival Top 5 predictions, is Alena Spodynyuk of Ukraine. The 5'11" stunner is currently studying Tourism and Hospitality at the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts. Ukraine doesn't have any Miss Universe winners to date. Their most recent and highest achievement was in 2011 when Olesya Stefanko placed First Runner-Up to the eventual winner Leila Lopes of Angola. However with Alena's stunning beauty, she might make history for herself and her country.

Top Ten Finalists:

Rounding Up my first (initial) Top Ten Finalists are the representatives from Brazil, Raissa Santana, Caris Tiivel from Australia, Mariam Habach from Venezuela, Iris Mittenerae from France and Yuliana Korolkova from Russia.

Top 16 Semi-Finalists:

Locked in my pre-arrival Top Sixteen Semi-finalists are the beautiful Misses from India Roshmitha Harimurthy, Camila Barraza from Kosovo, Channelle de Lau from Curacao, Shannon Harris from Barbados, Kiran Jassal from Malaysia and Chalita Suansane from Thailand
